Art
At Weedon Bec, we believe that art gives children an opportunity to be inventive and engages them in a process that helps to develop self-esteem, self-discipline, individuality and self-expression. The skills children learn in Art are both transferable and open-ended. There is no right or wrong way, and it opens a path of success for those that find core subjects more difficult. Our intent is that children develop a love and passion for Art. Through self-belief and nurturing expression, everybody is able to succeed and feel pride. By the time children leave Weedon Bec our children will become confident and proficient in a variety of techniques including drawing, painting, sculpting, as well as other selected craft skills. Children will also develop their knowledge of famous artists, designers and craft makers and be able to express themselves through a rich range of mediums and genres.

At Weedon, Art is taught through thematic units with our Dimensions 'Learning Means the Word' curriculum. It is taught through both Skills Development Tasks and through projects which then apply those skills. At Weedon Bec we value the role of art in developing and nourishing children, and intend that this message is transparent across the board of teachers, pupils and families.
