Thrive
At Weedon Bec Primary, we are committed to supporting our children in every way possible. The THRIVE Approach equips us with the knowledge and understanding to nurture their social and emotional development, mental health and well-being. We believe that by addressing these key areas, we can remove barriers to learning and create an environment where children feel safe, supported and ready to engage.
Throughout the school day, your child will experience the THRIVE approach in various settings, whether in the classroom, during assemblies, through small group interventions, or in 1:1 sessions with one of our Licensed Thrive Practitioners. We also offer additional support during lunchtimes in our dedicated Thrive Room, affectionately known as ‘The Happy Place.’
The Happy Place
Our lunchtime club provides a safe, supportive space for children to explore their feelings and emotions. In this creative and playful environment, children can engage in activities guided by one of our Licensed Thrive Practitioners, helping them build emotional resilience and enjoy meaningful connections with others.
The Retreat
We understand that some parts of the day can feel overwhelming for certain children. To help them navigate these moments, we have created The Retreat - a calm, quiet haven for individual or small group sessions. This peaceful space also serves as the setting for some of our Thrive sessions, allowing children to feel supported and restore their sense of calm.
The Wiggle Zone
We recognise the importance of movement in helping children regulate their emotions. That’s why we’ve created The Wiggle Zone—a space designed for physical activity that allows children to release energy and refocus. After spending time in this space, children often feel more prepared to return to the classroom and fully engage with their learning.
Sensory Circuits
Starting the day on a positive note is crucial, especially for children who find it challenging to come into school. To support them, we offer the opportunity to participate in Sensory Circuits led by our IMAT Sports Coach. These activities focus on improving sensory integration and processing, followed by a calming exercise, helping children feel regulated and ready to engage in learning.
