Intent

At Weedon Bec Primary School, we believe that music has the ability to positively impact children in a number of ways. We strive to create an environment where pupils have access to quality music provision and experiences. All children will experience music through listening, singing, playing, evaluating, analysing, and composing across a wide variety of historical periods, styles, traditions, and musical genres. We will develop their understanding of rhythm and pitch and learn how music is structured, as well as learning technical vocabulary for these elements. As children’s confidence builds, they are provided with opportunities to showcase their skills and enjoy the performance aspect of music.

As a school, we have witnessed first hand, music building character, developing confidence and improving overall wellbeing among our pupils. As a result, the acquisition of class sets of ukuleles and glockenspiels was prioritised, using money fundraised by the school. We are determined to develop a curiosity for the subject, as well as an understanding and acceptance of the importance of all types of music.
